Mini Cakes for the German School Basar

After finishing the alien cupcakes, it was time to decorate the mini cakes for the Christmas basar tomorrow. My daughter's class are baking cookies to sell tomorrow, and these small cakes will help decorate the table. Hopefully they will sell well, because the class has decided to again donate the money for children in need in China.

Last year they made chalkboards by themselves and managed to sell them for over 5000 RMB to benefit Baobei.

Alien Cupcakes

Well here is my first picture tutorial on how to make alien cupcakes
You will need one each per alien
One normal sized cupcake and one mini sized cupcake
1 toothpick per alien, you could use uncooked spaghetti as well, if you want to keep them all edible, just make sure, the kids know, it's in there
green buttercream
a bit of black fondant for the eyes and the antennae

Directions:

Bake cupcakes and let cool
Remove the wrapper from the minicupcake and set onto a normal sized cupcake, add a bit of buttercream under the mini. Insert toothpick to attach the head
rough ice with green icing
smooooth it, after it has crusted a bit
make two antennae and two eyes per alien and place onto the head

Last step is to pack them up

Ready for pickup

I must add, that a client sent me a picture of what she wanted, these are not my design, but if anyone knows, who came up with them, I will be happy to give credit. I could not find anything on the web, so I winged making them.

Have fun making them

Wow, now that that went well, I'll try my second post. Christmas is nearing and this year, I have decided to go all out and try my hand at DIY Christmas decorations. First thing I tried out were the Santas. My landlady decided to cut some branches off our camphor trees and when I heard that, I asked whether we could keep some of the wood, as we needed some for our fire basket. Some of the logs inspired me to try out something new, well at least for me, I must admit, I have seen them before on the net.

These were made of small cutoffs, small enough to be able to grace our dining table

Big brother Santa is watching over our pile og logs and our entrance

My door wreath made out of cookie cutters
My recycled xmas tree in our hallway, made out of planks from an old crate and packaging from a parcel from Taobao (chinese version of ebay)

My first foray into blogging

Hi everyone,

wow, I'm starting to blog. Never thought I might do that. I don't have a clue, what I will write about and where this blog will take me. A bit about myself.

We live in Shanghai and have been here 10 yrs. Living here is not always fun but always challenging. We meet a lot of interesting people, and unfortunately have to say good bye much too often as well. I spend a lot of my time in front of the computer or in my kitchen. I make novelty custom cakes (keeps me out of trouble) and love crafting things, as well as reading (thank you kindle)

I'll attach a couple of pictures, just to find out how it goes, I must admit, I'm a bit computer challenged, so please bear with me
